Mechanical Weathering

Mechanical Weathering

This is where Mr. Brown showed everyone an example of mechanical weathering.  There is a sycamore tree and an oak tree growing in the same crack of this rock.  As the trees grow they will slowly break the rock apart.

Rocks

Rocks

The dark spots in this photo are metamoprhic rock that was included into the surrounding granite.  Millions of years ago, magma intruded into the area, melting some of the surrounding rock.  As they cooled they created a mixture of metamorphic and intrusive igneous rocks.
